Also the first book (numismatic catalog) dedicated exclusively to Slavonian banovci.

1st edition, 2025.
ISBN 978-953-46719-0-0
Authors: Tomislav Dundović and Zlatko Viščević

This is the first book, or rather a numismatic catalog dedicated exclusively to Slavonian banovci. All previous literature included Slavonian banovci in broader works. Likewise, this is the most comprehensive and detailed numismatic catalog of Slavonian banovci published to date. It presents all data from existing literature (Truhelka, Rengjeo, Mimica, etc.), as well as numerous new pieces of information that have not been published until now. The catalog covers 160 types and as many as 557 variants of banovci, of which 194 are completely new. That is an increase in the cataloged collection of 53% compared to previous catalogs. All types of denarii, obols, and bagatini are covered, along with their variants. The book has a simple and clear format, contains enlarged images of the coins, and numismatic values in euros are shown next to each type. This is essential reading for anyone who deals with Slavonian banovci or is just starting out in this field.

Printed book, 144 pages, color images, Croatian and English texts, numismatic values in euros.

About the book

This book, or rather numismatic catalog, was in the works for more than ten years. This is a significant work for Croatian numismatics, because the last major work on Slavonian banovci was published back in 1897 (the work of Ćiro Truhelka). After that, very little new data was published, and even that appeared sporadically in articles. There was a lack of quality literature in this field.

To make the book as comprehensive as possible, the authors dedicated themselves seriously to research and present a series of novelties that have not been published until now. The book is produced according to the highest numismatic standards, with an emphasis on the clarity of the material and a detailed presentation of all important elements.

The book covers Slavonian banal denars, half-denars (obols) and quarter-denars (bagattinos). Almost every coin type is shown in actual size and in an enlarged format for a better view of the details. The description of the obverse and reverse is followed by a table of variations of the inscriptions and symbols on the reverse. Reference catalog numbers from other literature (Mimica, Rengjeo, Truhelka) are also provided for the variations.

A particularly important part of the book consists of identifiers, i.e., representations of certain characteristics of money that enable the quick identification of types and variants. After 128 years, this finally simplifies and clarifies what has until now made collecting Slavonian banovci difficult for many. The authors are especially proud of this part of the book.

The catalog also lists numismatic values for different types of money, as well as for certain rarer variants. The numismatic values are in euros for four grades of preservation.
