U Archaeological Museum of Istria held in Pula on November 14 and 15 9th International Numismatic Congress in Croatia (International Numismatic Congress Croatia), which this year gathered experts from various fields related to numismatics; archaeologists; museum professionals; historians, and numismatics enthusiasts.
During this two-day congress, several thematically diverse lectures were held, covering new insights from numismatics, archaeological finds, interpretations of historical contexts, and specific case studies. New research was presented, as well as interesting „tidbits of information“ that can often change established interpretations of familiar topics.
In addition to the official program, the congress also served as an important opportunity for networking among experts from various fields somehow related to numismatics. During breaks and informal gatherings, participants exchanged experiences and discussed numismatic topics. This is particularly important because such communication further strengthens cooperation among people involved in numismatics in various ways.
The congress was also accompanied by the ceremonial opening of the exhibition „Istrian Medals and Plaques“ from the collection of Marko Šarinić. The display is set up in the Archaeological Museum of Istria, where it will remain open until November 30, 2025. The exhibition presents a valuable overview of medallic art in the Istrian region and has attracted great attention from visitors and congress participants.
Event organizers Erika Trbojević (Archaeological Museum of Istria) and Branislav Miličić (Croatian Numismatic Society) received numerous praises from participants for the exceptionally high-quality organization, clearly structured program, and overall hospitality. According to the impressions of those present, all logistical and content components of the congress were aligned at a high professional level.
This international numismatic congress confirmed the status of one of the most important professional gatherings in this part of Europe and brought together people from Croatia and neighboring countries. Participants took home not only new knowledge and valuable contacts, but also symbolic numismatic pendants that remain as a memento of this wonderful numismatic gathering.
The next numismatic congress, the tenth in order, is planned for 2028 when the 100th anniversary is marked Croatian Numismatic Society.
