Our colleague Ivor Altaras Penda was a guest on the popular HRT show, “On the Edge of Science”. In the show, he spoke about money, and the main topic was “What does money say?”. Related to this topic, the show discussed the images, symbols, and text on coins and banknotes, and how through the appearance and design of money one can learn important things about a certain time or society. From the very beginning of the existence of money, important themes have always run through it: who issues it and from which metal, and what in turn defines the value of money? However, besides its role as a medium of exchange, money also represents a kind of historical postcard of past times and events.
