Banknotes from the same position on the sheet bear the characteristics of the cliché used to print them. It is common for certain clichés to have some defect, greater or lesser, so all banknotes printed in the position of such a cliché also have that peculiarity in their final appearance. Depending on where the defect is located exactly on the banknote design, it can be more or less interesting. Sometimes even minor anomalies are very interesting simply because they are in the “right place”.
Two such small but interesting errors can be observed on 5000 kuna banknotes dated July 15, 1943, in series letter E, with numbers from 200001 to 300000. Banknotes in that serial number range were produced in a second, separate printing run, so these two errors are not present on the earlier printed and numbered banknotes with the serial number range from 000001 to 200000.
Both errors are located on the obverse of the banknote. One of them is noticeable on the main motif, on the face of the portrayed girl, in the form of a tiny dot that creates the illusion of a mole. The second error is manifested by the fact that the horizontal bar is missing on the second letter A in the word “HRVATSKA” in the inscription “HRVATSKA DRŽAVNA BANKA”.
