The Vukovar Commemorative Medal was established in 1998 and is one of the rarest Croatian decorations. It was awarded for active participation in the defense of eastern Croatia, as well as for contributing to the peaceful reintegration of the occupied Croatian Danube region into the constitutional and legal order of the Republic of Croatia. This medal features the motif of the Vučedol Dove, one of the most recognizable symbols of the city of Vukovar.
