People in numismatics: numismatists, collectors, gatherers, investors, and dealers

In this video, we analyze the types of people involved in numismatics, or rather, the ways of engaging in numismatics. Numismatists are people who study money in a scholarly manner; they are interested in its history, social, and artistic value. Their main satisfaction comes from discovering new information significant to numismatics. Collectors focus on gathering money according to a specific system. Accumulators are collectors who gather money without a specific criterion, often uninterested in numismatics itself, but solely in possessing „something.“ Investors are focused on the numismatic value of money and their goal is to buy it cheaply and sell it when the price rises. Numismatic dealers professionally engage in buying and selling coins and banknotes, doing so practically on a daily basis. This division among people is not strict, and various overlaps between different ways of engaging in numismatics are possible.
