Printing of Croatian kuna banknotes

Before the introduction of the euro, the Croatian National Bank had the exclusive right to issue kuna banknotes and was responsible for printing kuna banknotes in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000. Kuna banknotes were produced in licensed foreign printing works chosen through international tenders.

The Croatian National Bank paid full attention to protecting cash from counterfeiting, and when designing kuna and lipa banknotes and coins, special attention was given to new security features that are easy to verify and complex to imitate.

The monetary unit of the Republic of Croatia, the kuna, was introduced on May 30, 1994, and was withdrawn from circulation and replaced by the euro on January 1, 2023.

We are broadcasting this video here as a memory of our national currency – the kuna.
