Croatian National Bank On September 21, 2026, it put into circulation a new 2-euro commemorative coin „City of Vukovar”. The issue is part of the „Croatian Cities” series and is dedicated to a city of exceptional historical, cultural, and symbolic significance for the Republic of Croatia.
The coin has been issued in a total quantity of 500,000 pieces. For exchange by citizens, 490,000 specimens have been allocated, which is the largest emission of a Croatian commemorative 2-euro circulation coin to date. This is official circulation currency worth 2 euros in all euro area member states.
Water tower and the Danube as symbols of the city
The national side of the coin shows Vukovar Water Tower with the Croatian flag on top and the Danube River. The Watertower is one of the strongest recognizable symbols of Vukovar, its resistance, defense, and perseverance, while the Danube represents the natural and historical connection of the city with the European space.
Next to the motifs, the inscriptions „GRAD VUKOVAR”, „HRVATSKA” and the year of issuance „2026.” are printed. In the outer ring are the twelve stars of the European Union, and next to the design is the designer's mark, the initials „MD”.
The author of the artistic design of the national side is an academic sculptor Duje Matetić, while a coin minted in Croatian Mint Ltd.

How to get the coin
Citizens can express their interest in the exchange through the CNB system from September 21 to October 5, 2026, or until the available quantities are exhausted. It is possible to pre-register a maximum of five copies per person.
The collection of coins according to confirmed pre-orders begins on November 9, 2026. It is possible at the CNB cash desk in Zagreb free of charge, at the branches of the Financial Agency with a fee according to Fina's price list, or by delivery to an address in the Republic of Croatia at the cost of postal services.
For collectors, the Croatian Mint will also prepare special blister packs and numismatic packaging.
