In today's video, we are talking about the smallest Croatian circulating banknote prior to the introduction of the euro, the 5 kuna banknote of the National Bank of Croatia with the issue date of October 31, 1993. This banknote belongs to the first series of kuna banknotes and was withdrawn from circulation in 2007 when it was replaced by a new series with better security features.
The greatest curiosity on this banknote is found on its reverse side. Namely, the depiction of the old Varaždin fortress does not correspond to its actual appearance, but is mirrored. This deviation from reality is mostly justified by design reasons, which is a bit harder to believe. All in all, this banknote is very charming, and the “mistake” on the reverse gives it an extra charm.
