As many analysts and collectors had been expecting for a long time, it was only a matter of time before the market price of silver broke the important psychological threshold of 2 euros per gram of pure silver, or 2,000 euros per kilogram. Exactly that happened today, immediately upon the opening of the stock exchanges after the Christmas break, so the current price of silver now stands at 2,036.31 EUR per kilogram of pure silver.
Within the first hours of trading, the price of silver recorded a strong increase of 3.70 %, which represents an increase of as much as 72 euros per kilogram of pure silver in just one day.
It has been known on the market for quite some time that there is significantly more so-called “paper” (virtual) silver than actual, physical silver. Therefore, it is not surprising that physical silver – especially in the form of coins and bullion – is often sold at prices higher than the spot price itself.
The comparison with the same period last year is particularly interesting. At this time last year, the market price of silver was only 914 EUR per kilogram, or 0.91 EUR per gram. In just one year, the price has risen by an impressive 122 %, which in absolute terms means an increase of 1122 EUR per kilogram.
When this growth is applied to typical silver coins appearing on the domestic numismatic market, it is clearly visible how much the value of silver coins has increased in a relatively short period – from both an investment and a collecting perspective.
