The greatest pleasure of numismatics is not just acquiring something missing from the collection, that is, filling a “gap,” but the very hunt for something we desire.
The hunt for “the catch” sometimes lasts for years; it requires a mountain of patience; nerves; effort... Along that path, we learn all sorts of things; we meet new people; we go through trials... Sometimes “the catch” slips away from us “by a hair”... But that day finally comes when it is ours! We put our trophy in the collection and we are happy for about 5 minutes...
Then a new “prey” appears on the horizon and everything starts all over again.
Numismatics is a hunt!
